Suspension wears slowly enough that most people stop noticing. The car floats a bit more over bumps, the steering feels vaguer, the tyres wear unevenly on one edge, and something knocks over a speed hump. Shocks, bushes, ball joints and links all age, and they age together.

Worn suspension is a braking problem as much as a comfort one. A car that pitches under brakes puts far more load through the front end and takes longer to pull up, which is why it is worth looking at properly rather than living with it.

The usual signs are a bite point creeping higher, a smell under load, revs rising without the car keeping up, or judder pulling away from a standstill.

If the clutch is coming out, the flywheel face wants checking while it is accessible. We machine flywheels here, so that part of the job does not add days to it. Bedding a new clutch onto an old glazed face is how you end up doing it twice.

Cooling systems, belts, hoses, leaks, and the faults that a service turns up. Sometimes the answer is a straightforward part. Sometimes it is worth a proper diagnostic first so that the part actually being replaced is the one that has failed.
